Why SolarAlign Exists

SolarAlign is a free solar resource: calculators, guides, and a phone app built around the exact geometry of your location.

The Problem

Most solar advice is built around national averages. A tilt recommendation for Phoenix is treated as though it applies to Port-au-Prince. But solar geometry is local: the angle of the sun in the sky depends on your exact latitude and longitude.

That one fact changes everything — the best tilt, the best direction, how much electricity a system actually produces, and whether it makes financial sense. We built SolarAlign to give people the exact numbers for their location, not a generic estimate.

What We Built

Five free web calculators — tilt, azimuth, production, ROI, and payback — plus a mobile app that measures alignment on-site using your phone's sensors. Every calculator uses the same solar geometry engine, so the numbers are consistent across the site.

The calculators are deliberately simple. They are designed to give you a reliable starting point and honest approximations, with the assumptions behind them explained.

Who It's For

Homeowners sizing their own panels, installers double-checking an orientation, students learning how solar works, and anyone considering solar in a region with unreliable grids or tropical conditions. If you want to know "what angle should my panels face, and will this actually pay off?" — that's exactly who this is for.

What It Can and Cannot Tell You

The calculators can tell you the geometrically optimal tilt and direction, an honest estimate of annual production, and a payback range based on your inputs.

They cannot see your roof, your shading, your local installer pricing, or your utility's specific tariff. Those have to be verified on the ground. We always recommend confirming with a qualified installer before committing to an installation.

How the Numbers Are Calculated

All calculations are based on standard solar geometry (sun position derived from latitude, longitude, date, and time) combined with published typical values for peak sun hours, system losses, degradation, and inverter efficiency.
